Digital Library of Appalachia
All libraries are special, even the digital ones, and The Digital Library of Appalachia is a fascinating one at that. It is made up of thirty-four member libraries, along with archives, and museums all associated with the Appalachian College Association. The goal is to encourage scholarly interest for the Appalchian region and to document and archive the history of the Appalachian people. On this site you'll find lots of photos, along with books, personal diaries and unpublished manuscripts. If you're interested in reading about the Appalachian Region, try The Appalachians: America's First and Last Frontier, by Mari-Lynn Evans. This book offers a rich portrait of its history and its legacy in music, literature, and film. The text includes essays by some of Appalachia's most respected scholars and journalists.
